>>>If i work part time as a delivery driver for a local takeaway do i need to change my insurance details

Most definitely yes!

>>>is it likely to be costly

Probably yes!

You'll need business insurance. That only adds about £60 per year onto my 'social, domestic and pleasure' policy but that's because I'm classed as a 'part-time traffic planner' (which is a fairly low-risk occupation). Delivery drivers are regarded as being among the highest insurance risks, so expect to pay quite a lot more.
Direct line policies cover you for business use as standard.
yes definitely - you are using it for business

GPs use their cars for work and I dont think their insurance is prohibitive (unlike teenagers and so on)
Zacs, there is a list of exclusions for business use including:

'Courier/Driver working on a hire and reward basis and/or delivering goods that they or their employer do not own'

If you are working for a national franchised takeaway they will organise third party cover for you. This will cover you legally but will not cover damage to your vehicle. To provide your own cover can be very costly.
