my son as a car with a 53 car number plate can someone tell me does that make it 10 years old or 11 years old. Im trying to purchase breakdown cover for it and need to know age of vehicle

I would say 11 years old.
Have a look at this link before you sign up. You should be able to cover your son rather than the car.

I still a bit confused reg document says date car 1st registered in uk 26th/1/04 does that not make it 10 years?
Normally breakdown insurance is based on vehicles being up to a certain age, at the date cover starts. So taking you son’s car as an example, for the purposes of age, it is less than 11 years old (but more than 10).
If you look at the V5 document, you will find date of first registration in vehicle details. I would calculate age from this date

10years 8 months so 11 years rounded unless it has a box for months and for years. It won't make any difference to the premium.
