It depends on method of payment,Some plans pay out the agreed sum or the total amount of money paid in whichever is greatest.I paid into one for years until I realised I had paid in a lot more than I would get back.

It depends if its an insurance, which pays you money to cover funeral costs, or an actual prepaid plan where you say what you want, pay for it now, and when you die, provided your relis don't want anything else, they don't have to pay any more money for the funeral. As for whether they are as good as they are made out to be...that depends on your expectations.
