My car is going in for MOT but I am going to have to use one of my dads spare cars to go to work in. Am i able to drive it because i am fully comp and my dad is fully comp even though i am not a named person on my dads insurance?? Some people have said no i cant because it is the car that must be insured by that person and its not the person themselves that is insured. My dad (who has worked with cars all his life) says that i can because it does say on fully comp insurance policies!!!
You should be covered 3rd party for your Dads car. you will have to check with your insurance cos there are sometimes exceptions i.e under 25's.
As long as the car you are driving is insured and you are not the registered owner of it then yes you should be covered.

Not all Fully Comprehensive policies offer DOC (Driving Other Cars) coverage. It is entirely at the discretion of the insurer if they wish to include this clause in the policy so it is prudent to contact your insurer and ask them directly if they do offer this and under what conditions (emergency use only etc).
DOC usually only covers the car TPFT while you are actually driving it. Once you leave the vehicle it no longer has insurance coverage, rendering it illegal if left in a public place.
Most insurance policies now exclude 'drive any other vehicle' and 'any other vehicle' unless specified in the policy.
And where it is included it is often for emergency only - not because your own vehicle is off the road.
Play safe, get Dad to phone his insurance company and check. It shouldn't cost much to have you as a named driver for a week or two if you are not already covered.
