HELP!do i need car insurance to drive on private propery

i was recently in a car accident in the privatly owned land i work on.i live on the land to so only use the car to drive throught the estate.at the time of the crash i was uninsured.i was under the inpression i did not need car insurance to drive on this land .am i right in thinking this.

You don't need car insurance whilst driving on private land, but no landowner in his right mind'd allow it, in case a third party caused damage to buildings, other vehicles or livestock. in which case the landowner and car'd be liable.

Some car parks are considered the public highway - it depends if the general public have access to it.

A supermarket carpark is private land but you must observe the usual laws such as insurance and seatbelts.

If the general public are not allowed on to the car park then you don't need insurance.

You are personally liable for the costs as you were driving. The landowner may be sued but he could in turn sue you to recover the costs. Alternatively, you could be sued directly.

A lot will depend on circumstances - were you driving on the employer's orders? Did he know you did not have insurance?

Did he consent to you driving on his land?

i was comuting home after work.the land owner was not aware at the time i had no insurance.bt became aware and was ok.

I'm not sure of what it is you are asking Are you asking whether you can be prosecuted for driving iwthout insurance?
Or are you asking whether you have to pay for any damage you caused- because the answer is yes you have to pay for any damage if you were at fault.

Since you weren't on public land (and I presume the public do not have uninvited entry to the land in question) then it's no offence to have had no insurance.

However, that doesn't remove your responsibility to make reparation for any damage you cause by careless driving.
