My wife starts her work before her official start time.(unpaid)She has to complete tasks before her shift ends. She says it helps her get her work completed so she doesnt have to rush the full shift.
I have told her if she has a accident before her official start time she wouldnt be able to claim on the companys insurance.Am I right?

If she is in work / on the premises I'm pretty sure she'd be covered even if it's before her official start time. I'm not a legal expert on these matters but I'm pretty sure. Buildersmate will know.
If you have signed into the building, which is a requirement everywhere, you are covered by the company's liability insurance. If it worked how you were saying, then anyone taking an hours unpaid lunch break on the premises would not be covered. all areas where staff go have to be covered by the policy. if you are sitting in the canteen waiting to start work you are still insured.
Yes, you are right.

I'm a postman, and there are many guys who get in way too early to throw of their walks, prep overtime etc.

I really don't think five minutes early would matter, but we have had warnings regarding this from both union and management that we are not technically insured until our duty officially starts.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'insured'- insured for what? If you are on the premises the employer has a duty of care and any accident has to be reported
