I've got a fixed penalty notice for ging though a red light. 60 and 3 points. Been driving sine 1997 - spotless licence otherside, mortified obvously as was trying to avoid being rammed by a boy racer at the time of the offence. Will let my car be a rammed next time eh? I've notified my insurer - what increase is this likely to lead to for my next premium?

So.....you were willing to get rammed by another car or hit a pedestrian in order to avoid the boy racer?

Yes, do let him ram your car then next time you're in that situation, it will be his premium that goes up, not yours.
I would be very surprised if it makes any difference to your premium.
yeah i wouldn't have thought it would make any difference. my other half's been flashed by cameras twice and it made no difference to his.
and in the future don't pay any attention to what you think the car behind you is going to do, all you can control is what you do.
oh and if you do go through a red light, just make sure there's no yellow box next to it!

Thanks.

The drivers who were husting me both knew what they were doing. They both went straight up the left turn lane - no camera on that one. I'm going to go and apy the fine and hand in my licence in person and try and speak to the police there to ask them to put a camera on that lane too as the drivers obviously know the way to go speeding. I'm not contesting it as I went through a red light- and that's the be all and end all.

My friends all think this is hallrious as I'm noted for being an over cautious driver.
I got 3 points on my licence about 8 or 9 years ago. I informed my insureres (you have to do this) and my premium remained the same for that current period.

when it was renewed they upped my premium... for the following 5 years. I think mine went up by about 10%.

when you re-new your car insurance or change insurers, they want to know about any points int he last 5 years.
Life is such a b!tch - deep breath - move on

Thanks guys.

It actually shook me up so much that now I'm now so preoccupied with traffic lights that i thinki t's affecting my driving.
well at least you learned a lesson and take notice of them now

I've never gone through a red light before and afterwards spent the whole night shaking in shock that it'd happened. I can easily understand now how people can get scared of being on the road as a driver.
i think you will find you are not allowed to pay the fine in person,it must be done in the post.
Some insurers only insure clean lic/ no accident etc, so when you set up your ;policy, if the underwriter had these terms and conditions the insurer may no longer quote.
I deal with these everyday (adding acc/conv change to policy) for a motor insurer and i have seen additional premiums for a TS10(driving through red light) range from 0 to 1000 depending on underwriters T & C.

Went in today and did it in person. Paid up and they wrote the TS10 on my licence in biro.

Checked a few policies online and as my no claims goes up it seems the TS10 isn't making much of a difference to the range of quotes I;m getting year on year.
Hi - Bad luck - contrary to an earlier answer - do not wait until renewal to tell your insurer - many of them now require to be notified as soon as the endorsement is on your licence. If you dont they could cut up rustyif there is a claim.
Even if you have been with the same insurer for years dont be complacent they may have changed their requirements and often do this with a little note hidden away in your renewal notice.

yes notified them on friday and got it sorted, expect my premium might be affected a little but as my no claims bonus goes up it shouldn't be too much of an increase because of it.
i had the same prob i slowed down approaching the lights because i know there is a camera there.the lights remained on green. as i went threw they changed to amber and i got a fine and points for jumping a red light.what are we supposed to do on a 50mph road approach them at 15mph they all want burning down.
