My husband has recently come out of hospital following 2 operations for rectal cancer. His lower half will take approx. 13 months to get back to to normal. One of the most awful problems is that he never makes it to the toilet in time and consequently our carpets, hall, landing and bathroom are now in a terrible state from constant cleaning and staining! Would this be something I could claim on my insurance as and when he is better? I tried to claim for a new carpet about 25 years ago after a candle caught fire and they said it wasn't an accident and that I couldn't claim, so we lived with a hole in the carpet for about 6 years!

Speak to your insurance company. They will want to know what he is doing to minimise the problem, such as using incontinence pads and/or a commode, and it will depend on the terms of your policy.
poor him & you having to clean up. Hope he now has Stenas?

More chance claiming for new carpets if you drop paint, dip his shoes in it & walk him about. (Paint will mask other odours).
