my uncle recently found an insurance policy taken out on my mother, when she was still at school, she is now 73 yrs old, the policy is of course still in her maiden name and we are not sure how much was paid on it. ive not seen the policy yet but where do we stand with it . thanks

It's potentially valid - you need to contact the insurance company, or who whoever took it over if it's no longer in business.

But don't get your hopes up too soon - it may have lapsed or possibly even cashed already. Depends on what sort of policy it was.

Has she been paying the premiums? If not it may be worth little or nothing. If she has been paying it was possibly a penny policy and may be worth perhaps £100. You need to find the company- which may be difficult as the company probably no longer exists under its original name.
