boiler insurance (how long to wait for repair)
3 Answers
my boiler has broken down no heating or water, the boiler insurance company sent an engineer six days ago he diagnosed the problem and ordered the part, he said he would contact me in a few days. well its been six days now so i telephoned the ins company they told me the engineer has got the part but is not back to work until next wednesday, that will be 10 days with no heating or water.
is 10 days an exceptable length of time to wait for the repair considering the engineer had the part a week ago?
does anyone know if there is an independant complaints body that i can contact to try to help to solve the problem sooner?
thankyou

We had a problem with our boiler, the engineer got the parts, then a week later we were told the work would not be done as it was "beyond economical repair", he was quoting over £300. A local firm fixed it under a callout fee of £64 and no parts needed, just a clean up of the igniter!
i am with swalec,
when the engineer came he did mention that if they cant get the part from their supplier (only one they use) then i would need to buy a new boiler.
i told him straight that i would get the part myself or that would be an easy way for swalec to dodge repairing my boiler. he soon got back to me and said he had the part from their supplier.
i have had the boiler repaired many times by local plumber and he always gets any part no problem. i wish i hadnt bothered with the insurance and saved the money to pay local plumber to repair it.
oh well lets hope the engineer will finally fix it on wednesday, fed up with cold showers and boiling kettle to wash dishes.
