insurance policy
in 2007 i took out a insurance policy with a company and during this time at my work place a friend was involved i a car collision with another party, a few weeks later i got a letter from my insurance saying my premium has gone up because of the accident. i called them for weeks to get this sorted and tell them i had nothing to do with it and was no where near even my friend called to advise them and finally i got a phone call saying it was sorted. in the last month or so i have took out a new policy and they have demanded a extra premium because i didnt declare my claim. i called my previous insurance and they have stated it will take weeks for this to be sorted so now my new policy will be cancelled if i dont pay it and also all my insurance policys for the last 3 years have been double what i would have normally paid, is there any kind of compensation i can claim or anything i can do as this is wrong

I think you are saying someone had an accident and then lied to the insurers saying it was you not them who was driving. Did the police agree you weren't driving? Was there ever anything in writing from the insurers to say you were driving and then confirming you were in the clear?

i filled in a form saying i had nothing to do with the accident i wasnt anywhere near her car or the van i had already gone home i dont know how they new my insurance company or what it has puzzled me and my family at the time i was ready to kill her but i thought it had been sorted out as i got phone call from insurance syaing i wouldnt get anymore letters and y premium was the same it wasnt untill i recently took out new insurance and they demanded extra payment because of what happened in 2007 but again it wasnt me bizzare in it
I thought I nearly understood it but the fact that the insurance company wrote to caila a few weeks after tghe accident saying the premium had gone up is odd, as it takes longer than that to settle a claim when it's your own car and you were driving it, i would imagine it takes longer to sort out when someone has said they are you or when someone thought it was you
I know that this is confusing and doesn't seem to make sense, but to get down to the nitty gritty of the matter the sensible option is for you to look at your insurance policy and find the address of their Complaints Department which must be included in the documentation. Write to them complaining that you appear to have been overcharged either for this renewal and/or for the previous 3 years. Under the FSA regulations, they are obliged to give you at least an acknowledgement within 5 working days and thoroughly investigate the matter. Although this may drag on for some time, they have to keep you informed every 4 weeks until the situation is resolved. After they have sent their final answer to your problem, they will also include details of how to approach the Financial Ombudsman Service, which you can then approach to adjudicate should you not agree with the insurers response.
