Car Insurance For and 18 Year Old
Does anyone here know how much an 18 year old male would normally pay for insurance?
A friend of mine, same age and also male, said he got his for £1,800 and I do not know whether to believe this. He says he is with the AA, and they just quoted me over £15,000.
This seems like insanity to me.
On a side note, my car is a 1999 Nissan Micra 1.0, bought for around £500.

Insurance is expensive for new drivers. It would probably cost you around £2000 per year. I would recommend you to shop around, try websites like http://theycompare.co.uk , http://gocompare.com , http://moneysupermarket.com etc
You need to target a young driver specialist such as http://www.youngmarmalade.co.uk.
I'm an insurance salesman (not for young marmalade), from my experience It is best not to buy a car that is popular with young drivers i.e. Peugeot 206 or ford kia as these will have been involved in lots of accidents, which will increase their insurance rating. Plus, a lot of insurers don't like japanese manufactured vehicles, so a nissan isn't a great buy.
You'll be surprised how cheap you insurance could be on a 2 litre late 1980's jaguar, because these are popular with middle age driver. You can buy a decent one for a grand.

Your occupation can have quite a difference too jonny. Particular occupations such as bartenders or salesmen (I only use those for example) might attract higher premiums than firemen or office workers. If bartenders and sales people prove to have proportionally higher numbers of accidents and claims than workers from other groups, then any new policy holder who works in a bar or in sales will incur higher premiums.
