You won't get fire and theft only insurance, such a thing doesn't exist (well not through normal insurance companies) 3rd party fire and theft should be available from pretty much all insurers though. (But is often no cheaper than fully comp)

You might get "Laid UP" cover with some insurers if you can keep your vehicle in a locked garage at your home (not a lock up miles from you). Its not available everywhere though because it creates admin which is costly. I wouldnt be too keen on th eidea of no insurance at all - Theft is not the only problem you may have - electrical fires can happen !

//3rd party fire and theft insurance, paradoxically, is more expensive than fully comp.
I do not fully understand why but it is true all the websites are the same. //

That is because a lot of people who insured their car TPF&T - statistics showed were '' less careful '' with their driving and cost the insurers a lot of folding .
They chose this cover because the value of their car was very low , and they did not want to spend a lot of folding, for insurance .

In order to combat this, insurers are charging higher premiums than Comp cover - in effect and by default , getting rid of this cover - the theory being that if you have to pay a higher premium for comp or TPF&T you will take more care , not to be in an accident .
Folding has more letters than money.
If your vehicle is old enough then laid-up cover is probably the best idea. Alternatively, cheque with you household insurers. It may be a case that it already covers this for you or they may had a small fee to add it.

Be very very careful about relying on your house insurer to cover the car in the garage - many wont !
