Hit in the rear while turning off the road (UK) who is at fault?

Hi. UK driver.

To get right to the point:
My road is on the bend of a busy main road with traffic lights about 20 meters ahead, just visible from the left hand lane when travelling towards the lights.

Was turning from the main road into my road (right).
A car had just turned into my road.
There was no on-coming traffic in the other direction and the traffic lights ahead had turned red,
I turned right into my road but the car in front was forced to stop (due to oncoming traffic in the middle of the road (passing parked cars), I was then also forced to stop while still being VERY partially in the left hand lane of the main road.
At this point I was hit from behind, very gently on my far left lumper by his far right bumper.

The damage is to the bumper, but because they are all integral these days it needs to be entirely replaced.

Who would you say is at fault?
Though I do think there is no way someone should have hit me as I was NOT going fast and obviously had not even left the road by the time they started accelerating.

Sigh. not a good STOPPING distance, I just meant a good distance, probably a shopping trolley's length or so.

Aha, having re-read and re-read I now see that you were still in the main road. In which case I concur that the car behind is in the wrong

Traffic lights/ pedestrian crossing, same thing, sorry, should be more clear.
They are well used (which is a god send otherwise I wouldn't get out of my road most mornings).

it was going toward the pedestrian crossing.

not sure what you mean chuck...

anyway..it sounds like the other car swerved out a touch to go round you and came back in again too soon, to have missed your right hand side bumper and hit the left with the back of their car...meaning they knew there was an obstruction and just carried on

My left hand bumper was the only part of my vehicle still in the main road due to the angle of the turn I was making.

in an attempt to make this as clear as possible here is a poor "paint-shoped" version of where my car was...

So I was tuning onto the road on the right, he hit me from behind with the RIGHT hand corner of his front bumper where I have indicated with the little explosion thing...

You have made it a lot clearer, thank you for that. and as such it is certainly the other driver at fault.
