Comparethemeerkat

Comparethemeerkat is a spoof website created by Comparethemarket as part of their marketing strategy. The website is cleverly authentic and actually allows you to compare different meerkats. Each meerkat has three attributes: size, hobby and location. Using very professional looking drop down boxes, meerkats can be selected and compared then you can select the meerkat you want.

There are, of course, many links back to the main Comparethemarket website. In fact Aleksandr, the head meerkat and owner of the site, will ask you if you are serious about meerkats if you try to escape the site at any time.

The campaign was launched in January 2009 and became so successful in its own right that the website has now started posting articles in the news section about Aleksandr’s exploits. There is also a presence on Facebook and Twitter which are hugely popular.

Recently the website has brought out an iPhone app and a film is due to be released in the near future.

All in all a very successful marketing campaign, it would be interesting the see if it affected their uptake figures…
