When my son left school he trained as a landscape gardener. He worked for a landscaping company for four days a week, travelling to different jobs around the country, and went to college to do an NVQ course on the fifth day. He was paid a government training allowance, but any hours he worked over and above a standard week, he got paid time and a half for, plus a travel allowance, so he was bringing in a nice little amount.

If your qualifications are low level, then it could be worth looking at getting NVQ training with a job placement in this way. It depends, really, what's on offer locally and what you want to do.
