he pays me tax and NI
for 4.40 an hour is that right

I'm not sure what you are asking? Are you asking whether you are paid at or above the minimum wage?
I'm not sure whether the rate of �4.40 per hour is before tax and NI have been before or after tax and NI have been deducte, but either way your salary is well above teh minimum wage for someone under 18:

If you are asking whether it is right that you pay tax and NI on your earnings, then it obviously depends on how many hours you are working. Assuming no other earnings, you can earn about �104 per week before you hit the start of the tax threshold, after which you lose 20% of any pay above that figure.
