Gross misconduct on job reference - will it detail what it was?

I have been dismissed due to gross misconduct. I have told my new employers this. When they request a reference, can my previous employees DETAIL exactly what the gross misconduct what about? Or would they just say "Dismissed due to gross misconduct"

Hopefully buildersmate or someone can advise. I'm just surprised your prospective employer is willing to take you on following such a dismissal, but if they are prepared to take you on in those circumstances then they may not care what the reason is, so they may take you on anyway.

Your old employer can say WHY you were dismissed,in this case Gross Misconduct,but cannot say WHAT the misconduct was,UNLESS your new employer specifically requests that information...
I am sorry to say that (I was in HR in my previous existence) I as a new employer would want to know exactly what the misconduct was,as it might affect (or not) the new job that you are taking.
