Dead end job!! What can I do?

Hi,

I have been in current job for almost 6 years now with the same company. I have done three years prior to this company and the trade is legal reprographics.

The problem is that I work evenings and have done so for nearly nine years now and I am really tired of it. Tired of the unsociable hours, lack of seeing my wife and kids or friends (what ever I have left now) I am also tired of doing the same dead end job. I was originally an assistant manager here but stepped down due to the treatment that I had received from my company when sales team would ring up and give me hard time, a co worker wanted to stab me because he doesnt like and the managing director f'ing and blinding at me and threatening to sack me and was also abusive and aggressive.

I want to get my normal life back but seem to find it difficult to find another job. No one seems interested and I dont know if it is due to my age, current skill or other.

My career skills are as follows with recent first:-

Assistant manager (reprographics/printer)
Shift manager (reprographics/printer)
Branch manager (car rental)
fleet controller (car rental)
Sales (car rental)
Business support teamleader/engineer (vending)
Business area manager (vending)
Sales executive (Texcote)
Milkman (managed)
Warehouse manager (telephone firm)
Metal Spinner (metal factory)

I have done well in all jobs and even earnt many awards for sales, service, support and management. I have even owned two small businesses, one in womens lingerie and marital aid plus consumable and garment printer.

What can I do with my skills or is there anyone that requires the skills that I have on board? Obviously I have included everything on my CV as it would probably take up too much time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Those are not career skills - those are job titles.
Maybe think about what generic skills you have using one of the skills inventory proformas - here's one for free online that you could try using:

That may then help you think about what types of job suit you.
Employers are interested in transferable skills.
When developing your CV, include a short para about only the last 2 or 3 jobs, then just list of the other 8 previous career job as the titles with their dates. Employers aren't going to be interested in the detail of what you have done more than 10 years ago.

Hi builder, sorry mate I did read it and chcked out the link. I did find it helpful but what I think my problem is is that I have been working unsociable hours for nearly ten years now and have had enough of it. The problem I get is that employers wonder why I have been in this trade and hours for so long if I want to change them.

I did come across a couple of interesting links though.

Zzxxee I might do that. I didn't realise that they had one for adults though. Ihave been to the job centre several times to see what they have but never seen that advertised. Will let u know how that goes.
