To me it's an arithmetical equation, pure and simple.
As a former maths teacher, I can't think of anything other than a 'missing number equation' or a 'missing value equation'.
A Fail Question?
'sums'
I suppose you could call it linear as opposed to quadratic or whatever.
Good point, Mike
It's not really linear as it can't be represented on a graph by a line, it's just a single number (66 in this case)
Ooh, get you, dear!

its real pain because i'm looking for lots of questions like this to practice .
Addition and subtraction. 83 take 17 is 66. What do you add to 56 to make 66? The answer is 10.

It could be regarded as algebra- you could call it "solving a linear equation'.
If you call the missing number y the equation to sollve is 66 = 56 + y.
and who better titled than factor60 to answer this so-difficult piece of algebraic logic.

I guess we may now see a contribution from those ABers Differentiation, Quadratics orTrigonometry in the next few minutes.
Factor 60? It is getting hot
my little boys are doing these sums at the moment and they have the ? represented as a letter and it is part of their algebra book.
