HI. My daughter is 14 and having problems at school. We are thinking of taking her out of school and home educating for year 10 at least and perhaps year 11 too. She wants to be a vetinary nurse so needs 5 GCSEs.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been down the home schooling route who can give words of advice - for or against. The main concern is what to do about GCSE coursework.
Thanks in advance.
Have you spoken to the school about the 'Alternative Curriculum' programme where disaffected children can attend school three days a week for basic subjects and do job-sampling Work Experience in, say, a vets or animal sanctuary ? I supervise children on this scheme in my borough.
Have you spoken to the school about what they could do to help her out? Have you thought about changing her school? If she had been home-schooled for some time it would be easier to get her through her GCSEs but you will be learning the system, finding resources, etc so I would be concerned about her being up to GCSE standard by the time she should sit her exams. We home-schooled one of our children for 2 1/2 terms but he was only in year 2 at the time so it was a whole different ball game.
Thanks for all the advice folks. We have been in conversation with the school and things seem to be picking up now so we will see how it goes. I don't think taking her out of school at this stage is the answer - I think it was a knee-jerk reaction.
Thanks again
