It's been a long time, but if I remember..............

19.6 x 10 x 9.6 = 1181.6

1181.6 x 10 to the power of 8 = 1.18 x 10 to the eleventh
19.6 x 10 x 9.6 x 10^8=19.6 x 9.6 x 10^9=188.16 x 10^9
StandarD form means that it must be written with one digit before the decimal point and that this digit must not be zero.
So 188.16 in standard for is 1.8816 x 10^2 and so the answer is:
1.8816 x 10^2 x 10^9=1.8816 x 10^11
(Note that 10^ means '10 to the power of', so for example 10^9 means 10 to the power of 9)
Hope this helps and that you can understand it.
oops correction to mine ......... 1.8816 x 10 to the eleventh

Ahhhh, I was close - ish!!
I had the 1st bit right, but had 10^9. (thanks for the symbol tip vascop)

Thankyou so much!
well it's 188.6 x 10^9
So in standard form it's 1.886 x 10^11
D'oh- it came up on latest posts and I thought it was a new question
... and I missed a 1 out

So why does is change from 10^0 to 10^11 in standard form?
Am trying to explain in simplest terms to a 13 yr old.
Question Author
I means from 10^9 to 10^11!
10 is 10^1
Okay, so vascop's answer explains that.
Have another look at that

Its complicated but I think Ive got it - think being the key word here, lol.
If I may butt in, Smow............

your original equates to 1881.6 x 10^8
you simply move the dec point 3 places to the left .......... so 10^11
