Can the school charge me?

The school have written to me to say that they may whithdraw my child from an exam because of uncompleted course work. They then say that they will incure a penalty and that it will be passed on to me can they do this?

I was in a similar position to this when sitting my GCSE's many moons ago now, and was to be withdrawn from 2 exams but you can actually pay for your child to sit the exam and then if(no scrap that, when!) they pass the school can refund you. Please don't let your school bully you, sit down with your child and see if they think they would be able to catch up the course work, if not allow them to be withdrawn and then they can concentrate on their other subjects!

Tell the school that you do not wish your child to be withdrawn but if the school make this decision then they should bear the cost.

They can do this. It costs the school money to enter students for exams, and if they are clearly going to fail, the school would rather withdraw them. Otherwise they just add to negative league table results for the school(attainment). What I would do, is sort out your child! Get them to do the missing coursework so they stand a fair chance of passing the exam, and insist that the school enter them for it.

I don't really know much about this, only that I was withdrawn from an exam without even being told... nor my parents. I didn't realise until I received my results that my friends had an extra grade. pee'd off I was...
