My niece, who is 15, has a condition called Hypermobility, which causes her joints to swell and at times she is in horrendous pain. This has resulted in her having some time away from school, nothing excessive, and today her mum (my sister) was told by the Head of the School that because of her absence my niece may not be able to go (they haven't decided yet) to the School Prom at the end of term, have her name printed in the School Year Book and she may not get a place in Sixth Form. Surely this is wrong, my niece is so upset and well, as for my sister, she is not a happy person at all at the moment. Does anyone know if this is right. Thanks all xx
That is just stupid. If she ia student of good standing (despite the absences) and all fees and requirements have been met this could be discrimination. (This is just my opinion as i live in US and have no clue as to the rules etc.)
We have a student who announced her third cancer relapse yesterday. Our school goes out of its way to accomodate her illness and help have as normal an experience as possible. I wouod check with her school board or equivilant to find out the legalities of such a thing.
This is clearly discriminatory, i would suggest talking to the headteacher and i'm sure there must be some law against denying her a place in the sixth form at least, if not the other things because of her health.
Hi, EngTeach and sophie_1003 many many thanks for your responses. I have to admit I have said to my sister that I think it is discriminatory but she is hoping it isn't. Anway thanks and I will let you know what happens.
