Can anyone help with my son's music homework?
This weeks Y7 music homwork is to design an A4 poster, include binary, ternary, structure and contrast. Please could anyone explain an easy explanation what these terms mean in relation to music, so he can design his poster. I have tried looking on the web, but no joy and thought then of asking you guys on here. Thanksx And no he does not like music classes.

anyway - "binary form" is when a piece of music consists of two repeated sections..........AB AB AB perhaps
ternary is three sections..........ABA ABA possibly?
try Wikipedia..........searching for "binary form".........then "ternary form"
on a poster???.....................this is often used in dance........how about groups of two or three dancers grouped in different colours............Red/Blue........or Red/Blue/Red..................?
any graphic designers about?

This is a clear example of a pointless task set for the sake of the teacher being able to say that a homework has been set.
Rip coloured tissue, glue it on the paper randomly. Then the homework has been done.
I would be tempted to ask the teacher for an example of the marking criteria, and how the task fits into the scheme of work and learning objectives.

Agreed. The teacher would have made the learning much more worthwhile by asking the child to listen for, and explain examples of ternary and binary form. The whole point of music is, after all, to make and listen to it.

I'm sorry he doesn't like music classes. But be reassured, neither did my own lad. He took lessons in trumpet and guitar at one point, but really wasn't dreadfully interested so I just left it alone. These days, however, left to his own devices and now 25, he strums away at guitar once more and has developed a very wide ranging and eclectic taste in music.
