Is segregation, I mean on his own completely, without any attention for a non prescribed period, a reasonable punishment for a 5 year old boy with ADHD who causes slight disruption in class? Of course not, even murderers and paedos get looked at through a glass to make sure they are still breathing, think of the paperwork if they weren't? What does the OFSTED gang say to this and how can this possibly be enforced?

I've read this three times, and am still baffled. you're saying segregation for a 5 yr old with ADHD should be enforced?
I can be easily done - put boy in room and leave him there. It's not right of course, and I would go ballistic if it was my child. Is it your child that this has been done too?
Are you saying he should be allowed to disrupt the education of the other children?
When did all this ADHD start anyway? It was just disruptive children when I was at school. Yes, they were removed from the class as they disrupted the other children.
Children with ADHD could hardly control how they behave. What I found works best for them is patients, and speak softly to them. Not yell or scream at them when they fail to listen or comply with 'the' rules.
Is this a modern thing? We had a couple of children like that but they were always controlled by the teachers. Unlike today's lot who run rings round the teachers (when all this was fields and you could get a fish and chip supper for a tanner) :-)

No I'm not saying it should be enforced. Yes it is my boy. And no he shouldn't be able to disrupt the education of the other children, but surely solitary confinement is for one outside of; OFSTED recommendations and two is an infringement of a 5 year old child's human rights? He's not murdered anyone for heaven's sake he just wants to do his own thing a lot of the time. Kinel, who didn't at school? Smoking behind bike sheds, bunking off, by the way I don't condone, neither did I do any of the last 2. But let's be reasonable, he is only 5 years old!
In an ideal world there would be a more specialised approach to education for children with a special educational need. Do the school understand your child's needs and has he been diagnosed with ADHD? Maybe he should go to a school who have more experience with children with ADHD? If he is only five and is being 'segregated' then maybe you need to do some soul searching about what school he should be in.
Have you soken to the teachers? It does not sound helpful or fair. My youngest has a few special needs, but the classroom has Learning Assistants as well as the teacher to help any individual children. You may need to speak to the Occupational Therapist and see if there is anything that can help. They sound a bit ignorant to be honest.

The teacher has to be fair been great, the head has so far not been very understanding, but now seems to be more so. The teacher has now called in a personal favour from an educational psychologist. The school's EP is allocated only 9 hours per month, 4.5 of which is allocated for report writing!
Thanks all.
