workplacement- whats the law

Hi can anyone tell me what the law is on supervision of a workplacement aged 15. in Scotland? cheers K.

It would depend on what you are doing

I can't imagine the supervision would be much if your stuffing envelopes. Would you need supervision to ensure you don't get a paper cut?
If you're operating something - which you most definitely will not be - then you would receive the same training and supervision as anyone else

hi thanks, to cut a long story short my 15 yr old and another were left alone in the workplacement place for three and a half hours, when the adult returned he was stinking of booze. i wont mention where or what they were doing because surely this is against any rules. they were totally alone with nobody else in the building with no work to do and no access to a phone if something was to happen. the place wasnt locked up

I don't know the law on this in Scotland but this sounds wrong. I would report it to the school. Placements are supposed to be checked and managed by a placement officer - this isn't right.

thats what i thought, if i had wanted him left alone i would have left him at home, also hes autistic.

That's even more worrying - tell the school straight away.

was thinking of going straight to the education dept as they are responsible for checking these places out for health and safety, thanks for your imput

That sounds awful and unlawful, thankfully your daughter wasn't alone :O
I would definitely speak to the school or who ever arranged for the work placement to being with and start there
