i have been trying to get a job as a domestic plumber for the last three months every intervew i have been to seamed all right at the time then you get the i have a lot to inervew i let you no by the end of the week .I am 61 years old am i to old to get a job

The problem is a few years ago it was publicized in the news that there was a shortage of plumbers & pipe fitters. There are now lots of young people training & enter pluming which means that there are less jobs available.

If you want a job the only way you will get work is though an agency on contract. It�s a sad fact that once people get near 60 employers won�t take them on as permanent staff. Working contract will mean more flexible hours and better pay.

Sorry, I work in construction but don�t know of any domestic agency�s, hope the above helps.

There are any number of reasons why an employer might be rejecting you. You haven�t said why you�re job hunting, but it may be that how you explain that is turning them off.

New ageism laws mean those interviewers would be on shaky ground legally if they could be accused of rejecting you because of your age. Perhaps you seem less qualified to a modern standard than the competition or you are looking for more money than they want to pay.

You could try shaming them in the interview (�are you less interested in me because of my age?�) and I would strongly recommend that you contact the interviewer after their decision for constructive feedback. Ask the questions I mention above and see what you get.

Other options to consider are starting your own business to target customers who might like a more mature plumber (like care homes, older residents etc) or find a plumber who already employs older workers and ask to help him out.

At your age the major strength is experiance maybe contact your local college ref work as a tech or advisor on course

Agency work is not regular but is generally better paid.

perhaps you could take a refresher course or something to prove to them you are up to date with modern plumbing etc.

If you are fully qualfied apprentice trained plumber then why even try to get a job with an employee ??? There is mountains of work out there for a good experianced plumber, Go self employed and rake in the profit for yourself.

You don't happen to live in Leicester do you?
Trying to get a decent plumber here is a nightmare and when they do the job and problems occur they are never to be seen again.
I would prefer an older tradesman, pardon the phrase, but think they have far more pride in their work.
