I have been off sick and paid statutory sick pay from the beginning, having been off for six months i figured this would now stop and i would need to claim incapacity benefit. However i have now received payments of company sick pay? short of asking my employers directly, can anyone explain this?

You company has an enlightened approach and a reasonably generous sickness benefit scheme. Have a look at the terms of the scheme - often found in the Company Handbook or similar documentation. It will inevitably stop after some time defined by the Company, sometimes by further gradual reductions. There ought to be a dialogue going on where they are asking how your recovery is going. Eventually, if you are not able to return to work, and following consultation with you, the Company will have to decide to dismiss you (with notice) or grounds of capability and you cease to become an employee. At that point you are back into the State fall-back schemes, one of which is Incapacity Benefit.
it will probably stop soon my employer did it and is was because they had worked it out differently to me, it works out to slighty more than 6months when you work it out in weeks.
