Why is there no retirement age imposed on judges and politicians etc?

Logically I would say: we only really impose a retirement age via an employment contract, which has its roots in welfare provision by (a few) kind hearted 19th & 20th century employers. Judges are appointed and politicians are elected, so no employment relationship exists.

I agree with Alligator.

Polticians and Lawyers (which is what judges are) make laws that apply to everyone else but themselves.

A while ago Gordon Brown made a law that nobody could have more than a certain amount in their pension pot (cannot rememeber the figure).

The judges said that was not enough, so he ruled that it did not apply to judges.
