Does anyone know approximately how much of a percentage of the contractors salary a temporary agency charges the employer?
I need to factor it in to my negotiations on my daily rate as I did not get the job through an agency and so would like a little bit of the pie that my employer is saving.

I can give you some ballpark figures from my experience of using agencies:
25% - 30% on top of the hourly rate for ongoing temporary workers
Recruitment fees are charged for recruiting into a permanent role as a percentage of the annual salary, I have paid similar to the following:
Up to about 20k a 15% fee from the agency
20 - 60k is about 25 - 30%
60L and over can be up to 50%
If it were me I would go in with 30% and be prepared to settle for 20-25% - but it does depend on your marketability, if you think you are worth more ask for more. One thing agencies do is publish salary comparisons for roles, you might want to compare what has been offered against the market rate. If you are being offered substantially lower then make it up to the market rate (with valuable evidence to support your request), if you are getting mid range try to push it up to the top end rate.
