boss wants more performance

i work in a warehouse + the bosses are trying to squeeze more work out of us. there is a rate for our work which isnt written down anywhere in the contract etc..they have stopped all our grace breaks and still keep pushing us. we are using either counter balance or narrow ailse trucks. they have told me that if i dont start to pick up then they will have to take it to the next level . my question is surely they cannot disiplne you if something is not in the contract? my job title is warhouse team member ! i have worked there over 2 years thx

It's quite common in my experience for management to set higher targets year on year. Is there a union who can advise? If you don't agre with it your employer might well say that if you are not up to meeting their standards you can either choose to leave and or they will start action on the grounds of capability, and I think they can do this provided they treat everyone equally in terms of targets and sanctions.

Your job sounds like a warehouse & admin & customer service job I had, back in France. In order to meet the deadlines and avoid being sacked (in France, there's much more unemployement than here) I had to work a minimum of 10 hours unpaid overtime a week, up to a maximum of 35 hours (unpaid overtime)! And we didn't have bonuses or annual salary reviews.

I lasted 5 years and a half and was eventually sacked (but they had to pay me 2 months indemnity because they didn't have a valid motive, + 2 months notice). I was one of the oldest employees (at just 31...). Basically, the motto of the owners of the business was: 'squeeze the orange, and then throw away the skin'.

I would advise you to look for a job elsewhere. Possibly in another industry. That's what I did. I had only ended up doing a job like that because I couldn't find anything better at the time, anyway.
