working boxing day for normal pay!!!

hiya i just wondered if any 1 could help me i have been told that i am working boxing day for normal pay this year every other year has been double time so ive dug my contract out and it says: it will sometimes be necessary for you to work on bank/public holidays,and you will receive double your normal rate of pay so can i refuse to work for normal pay? thanks guys xx sabina x

There shouldn't be an argument - if they want you to work that day, that's what you are contractually entitled to be paid. They may well have the option of not rostering you to work on that day.

I don't think boxing day is a bank holiday monday the 28th is instead. Bank or public holidays are traditionaly on a week day as this is when the banks opened.

Usually, in a profession where 7 day working is normally required (e.g. Transport, Emergency services, Care homes etc) the bank holiday is the actual day and not the day used by banks as the bank holiday. Using Boxing Day as an example then if you work for police Dec 26th is bank holiday, if you work in an office Monday 28th would be the bank holiday.
