I started work full time working 5 days a week for a new compant on 25 January 2010, what will be my holiday entitlement be from this date to the end of the tax year
if yiur job entitles you to 4 weeks holiday a tear ( that's 20 days) thenyou get a quarter of that entitlement over the 3 months january - 31st march but yoiu started later in jan so you may onlt get 4 days not 5. thereabouits.
The company I work for operates holidays from January to January. Therefore nothing this year but the full entitlement next year.
Does the 20 days holiday a year include Bank Holidays or are they in additon to the 20 days? My son-in law's-employers used to always include bank holidays in their calculations so he only got about 14 additional days which I always queried?
It must be totally different in retail, if you start work your holiday entitlement starts to buiold immediatley. I started my new job Oct 1st, with a holiday year 1st april to match 31st, so I get 2.5 weeks paid holiday before end march, i have taken 1,5 already and am taking the final week next week. If i didn;t do that, by 31st march the firm would owe me the 2.5 weeks and i would lose them as they don;t carry them into the next year nor do they pay in lieu.
If the holiday year is january to january and you start in january, you need to take your 4 (or 5) weeks over that 12 months as you will be owed that time by the end of december

My holiays will run April to April, so from 25 January to 5 April I will have worked 10 weeks
Folk are entitled to leave that is equal to 5.6 times their normal working week. That means for those of us working a five-day week, it'll be twenty-eight days' leave. As you started on 25th Jan and the leave year ends on 5th April, the leave will be a propprtion of the full amount and will be 5.5 days.

Some good answers here but without knowing your company's holiday arrangements we can't tell you the exact number of days. You really need to ask your manager.
Yes, the 2 things we need to know before any useful answer can be given are:
1) What date does the company's holiday year start?
2) How many days holiday does an employee get? (by law this figure must be at least 28 days including public holidays - but it might be more)
Come back with that and someone can tell you. Until then, all answers are pointless comparisons.
This should all be detailed in your contract of employment!
