Many site want YOU to pay a 'Registration Fee' upfront. You are then sent a list of clients to visit, etc.
Many people who commented about this were disatisfied as the reality didn't live up to the 'eat free, get stuff free AND get paid for it' promises that enticed them in the first place.
I can't remember the where I looked so I can't give you a link, but have a good look round before you decide.

I worked for a mystery shopping company in the 90s (not actually as a mystery shopper). Reputable mystery shopping firms do not levy a recruitment charge, but they are *VERY* selective in their field staff.

i work as a mystery shopper for a couple of agencies, i have however seen adverts asking you to pay to join up to som companies, genuine companies do not ask for any payment but depending on the company you will have to fill in a lengthy application process, others are easier.
reatileyes.co.uk and grassroots.co.uk are two genuine ones, the money is not amazing but is great as an extra. some assignments are better paid than others but thy let you know this upfront you also get some where you have to buy something like a drink or product but they give you a reimbursment amount and you just have to upload a reciept. anyway hope this helps.
