interesting question, if anyone has any sensible ideas please. the company i work for are now asking all staff to say to EVERY CUSTOMER "sorry to keep you waiting" fair enough, but thats even if they havent waited at all. i find it all silly and unecessary when its not real. im now threatened with disciplinary action if i dont say it. whatever happened to freedom of speech................

you cold just change it slightly to "sorry if you were kept waiting" then it's true (well maybe noy absolutely true if you are not sorry i suppose!)

i appreciate your reply pixi, but do you feel the staff member is genuine when they serve you or just being robotic and corporate? ive had 20 years with my company and have a lot of regular customers come through my till just for a laugh and a chat they dont want mind numbing robotic speel.....but i do understand you reply xx thanks
Very few places in the world allow total freedom of speech. For example enticing folk to riot is probably a crime. And slander of course. The thing is that some jobs don't allow those who take them as much freedom as any normal person would like. You take the coin, and perform as commanded. Bit of a hit to your self respect, but there it is.
i think most of us are caple of understanding its eomthing you have to say. when i worked for WPA they introduced a phone greeting, went like this
"good morning western provident associations personal healthe division 'insert name' speaking how may i help you!
after a few os fpassed out we were allowed to shorten it. i now work for someone else i answer the phone "finance"

ibizaboy, i feel your pain!
I work for the co-op and the other week i failed the mystery shopper as I refuse to say the following....
"Have you brought your own bags or would you like to buy one of our 10p reusable bags?"
And the reason I refuse? We have hundreds of free ones on plain sight, and im sick of customers looking at me like im thick when they go "errr no ta, i'll have one of your free ones instead"
