Hi all I'm a single mum and claim benefits and want to start learning again i want to work in the Health and Social care area I did a GNVQ at school and passed but i heard that to get a proper job in this sector i need to do a NVQ 2 to get anywhere how do i go about learning at home without stopping my income
Good for you - you say 'you've heard that' - rather than basing your efforts on what may or may not be correct, do as suggested above and begin at the Job centre. Also try googling in what you want to do - there may also be government schemes to get you on the road to a job. Good luck
You have to do a practical element to any NVQ as it is specific to a certain industry (unlike a GNVQ which is a general qualification - hence the G). Do as the others have advised and look for a job with training.
hi all thanks for the advice will be going job centre first thing monday morning i did phone up a few places like open university as they provide free home learning but they wasn't as useful "4getmenot" how do i go about applying for work at a care home which offers training and qualifications at the end of it
Nearly all residential and nursing homes will homes get you the training you need, they are no longer NVQ's though, they are now called Modern Apprenticeships or some such nonsense, I have just started my NVQ3, they are still being referred to as NVQs.
A job in care is not difficult to come by, most homes have vacancies quite regularly.
