spec letters - too much? what to include etc?

just some thoughts wanted really

I work freelance for 1 industry -but do 3 different - but somewhat related roles.

however opinions vary as to whether being versatile & having an allround natural ability or being dedicated to one field is best.

Im aware of the jack of all trades master of none thing...but im very well trained & experienced & i dont really think that applies here as the 3 roles are pretty linked & often overlap & it is common for people to do a mix...i suppose its like a painter also hanging wallpaper & laying carpets...you wouldnt be put off doing your carpet just because theyd done more wallpaper in the past...

however -my problem is spec letters - when its known they want all crew.

i have 3 separate cvs, that each mention only as a side note (sort of to explain work gaps) that I have experience in the other depts...but im not sure if

to send all 3 CVs & a cover letter that addresses that link
or send 3 individual & separate applications & hope they dont notice
or pick one role and hope thats the one they need someone for

however i feel i could be missing out on jobs if i do that

problem is, opinions vary...
some people think its great to be an allrounder & want someone like that - & have even got jobs over others because of that
- & others think its not good & puts them off - & i lost a job once (to my knowledge) because of that...
of course i have no idea who'll be reading my letter

Ive even considered creating 3 slightly different 'personas' - different looking CVs, different emails, phones, varying my name...just for the application but I imagine that'd cause other problems & be too complicated.

any thoughts?

my thought wold be that you should have 1 spec letter/cv. but as you say, opinions vary

Definately not three cv,s - too much info. But keep them for when one is more appropriate than the other. Just try you best to come up with one comprehensive one and don't worry too much about the gaps as we all know that freelancers have them.

How did the film go? You were asking about whether to take a film role or a longer term position a few weeks ago and I wonder if anything came of either of these positions?

i did used to have one cv but if i combined them now it would be about 8 pages long!...also i was told it would confuse them if the info is all mixed together so to keep them separate......

the film was delayed so starting it in august...i didnt get the other job, but they were very positive about me and said to keep in touch, thanks for asking
