has anyone ever worked as a childrens holiday rep? if so what does the job involve? is it just looking after the children and organising activities or do you have to also do airport pick ups, welcome meetings, entertainment shows etc?  also can you choose which country you would like to work in or do you just get sent somewhere? thanks x

I live in the canaries in a resort town.

The Kids reps are the only reps i know with a suntan and seem to enjoy their job alright.

But they do have to walk around with this fake 'i care' attitude that the rest of the reps dont seem to bother with.

(outsiders point of view)

the best childrens holiday reps are butlins redcoats and haven holidays havenmates. the jobs involve dancing/singing in caberet shows at nights and entertaining the whole family and in the days they have places where the kids can go and basically all u have to do is entertain them for a few hours like swimming, drawing/painting ect, just so the parents can go off and do their little thing, its a great job but it would be advised that you have background in performing arts and leasure and tourism, i went to college for 3 yrs to do that job, it was my dream but i didnt follow thru with it as i met my ex-partner. the pay is the only downfall, u get about 150 per week and u work quite a lot of hours, also its only seasonal work, april-september. but i would deffinatly recommend it to anyone interested
i also think a bit of child care background would come in handy
I  used to work as an overseas Rep for Thomson, and my girlfriend was the Childrens Rep. Her duties involved organising the Kids Club activities (twice daily), Welcome Meetings with the adults and then the children, airport arrivals and departures, any evening entertainment or shows and booking childrens excursions. The job was not as easy as people think, as she was responsible for a large number of children at any one time. You also have to be either NNEB or NVQ qualified. Generally, the holiday company in your first season will just send you anywhere they like. After that you can request a destination, but there is no guarantee that you will get it. Why dont you check out the Thomson website, they may be able to give you a full job description along with any vacancies they may have. Another good one is Mark Warner holidays.
Good luck!

When working as a overseas children's representative your main job is to promote your children's club to the max.

Other duties are:  doing welcome meeting, guiding trips, customers arriving and departing, complaints, airport duties and many more but it is a very fun and enjoyable experience but also very hard working.
