How much to charge

Not sure if I'm in the right place. Its been a while since I have done this but I've been asked to a do and to take photos of guests at a party. I have done this in the past but it has now been 5 years. What sort of price package should I offer. How much do you charge an hour? Also I intend to give them the disc with all the edited photos so they can choose and print their own as I accept its for personal use only. I am willing to offer printing package if they want this as well.

how big are the photos, are they available at the party or to be collected later? I'd charge a fee to attend then so much per photo.

I think you are on a loser (if this doesn't offend) by giving the disc to the part-throwers - why would people pay for prints if you are giving them the disc? I may be cynical but they'll upload it to facebook and people will just print off for themselves.

The usual situation is that the photographer sells the pictures aher than being paid per hour. I have been to such events and the charge was £5 per print with a reduction for 2 or more to one person. The pictures were 6 inch by 5 inch . I would not give sell the entire disk to someone just as many prints as they wanted. You have the copyright to these photos and they are yours to sell, if you sell or give away the disk or the negatives the person who buys it can make copies of your copyright pictures for nothing.

one of our reporters, moonlights as a photograher and he is charging my mate £275 to do their wedding, this is from 2pm - 7pm (after the cake is cut that's it)

Thanks for your answer. I am looking to sell the disc anyway. As long as its not used for advertising there's not a lot I can do. I understand the copyright issue as I have worked in the Picture Library industry for some time. But times have changed and as its only a personal thing as 50th Birthday bash. She will then have to pay for her own printing if she wants. I have in the past done printing packages for one 10x8, 2 7x5 and 4 small photos. But I'm guessing for a do like this, a 7x5 inch photo would be an option @ £12.

Not sure how long the event is but looking at 5 hours at least? I haven't spoken to the person yet. A friend recommended me!

mccfluf your mate gave them a bargin price . The last wedding I heard about the Photographer charged £500 for an album of pictures and that was after charging £250 to attend in the first place. Single photos were £25 each.

Yeah he does do it cheap, he doesn't do the whole album thing, just gives them the disc. but he doesn't have insurance etc, the others they looked at were all charging £750 upwards
