My son's friend is signing on once a fortnight for jobseekers allowance. (uk).  Is there any holiday entitlement while you are signing on or is it a case of "you have to be available for work at all times"

Not meaning to sound rude, but.

WTF. he's claiming dole and wants holiday pay?!?!

I think that job seekers allowance is exactly that. An allowance to cover the bills and essentials whilst in between jobs. if he can afford a holiday he shouldnt be signing on, full stop. If there is a genuine reason for not being able to work, then he can claim a different type of benefit. Otherwise get a job!

If he's going on holiday in UK there's a form you can get to allow him to sign on in another jobcenre. If he's going abroad he'll probebly have to sign off.

fibifooz depending on the circumstances, Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) can be paid whilst on holiday but the best thing to do is get yir son's friend to ring his local Jobcentre.

Bob A Job neither you nor I know the circumstances of the person in question. For all you know he's been working for years paying his taxes & National Insurance and saved up & paid for his holiday before claiming JSA. Even if that is not the case, the law allows JSA to be claimed in certain circumstances whilst being on holiday

I was on the dole for a couple of months between leaving uni and getting a full time job.  I had already booked a holiday for a week and was told i could not claim for this week as I was out of the country.  Is this the same type of situation?

Yes chazza, but his holiday is in this country.

He is not idle, He just can't get a job in the field he's qualified in. Had a few interviews so far no joy. A few days away would probably cheer him up.

Thank you all for your answers.
