Soooooo bloody annoying that the majority of jobs are internal.

Makes it extra difficult. Ive called the nurse bank and left 4 messages. Im going to call daily untill i get a reply! When the hell will they recruit!!!!

There's a lot of redeployment going on at the moment what with all the reviews of jobs and things so maybe that is having a knock on effect.

It's so that those of us who have a job, can keep one. I agree with china - the cutbacks are incredibly huge, and a lot of the vacancies are a result of role redesign in order that organisations can operate more leanly. I take it you're looking on NHSjobs, tinks? - it's been the trend for some years that existing employees get the opportunity to apply first, particularly if they are working in areas where jobs are at risk - as so many of us are.

when you make people redundant or close departments, you MUST do this for the staff to move into these jobs! when the current 'at risk' emplyees have had their pick, a month later they are usually advertsied again! that is how i got my job! one way round this is to apply for 'bank' HCA or agency work, and get a perm job via this route!

Technically there are four band 4 admin roles vacant in my department at the moment as we've just had our review and no one else in the paediatric division has shown an interest in them. So assume now they will go on the re-deployment list rather than being advertised. Are you looking for jobs in more than one hospital/trust? Some of the nursing roles at my trust don't seem to have been as adversely effected as some of the other health professional or admin roles, well not yet at least.

IMO it depends on your speciality too - some Trusts (especially Foundation trusts) have very different staffing levels and recruitment strategies than others.
Are you only looking in Scotland?

Different, isn't it, china? I'm PCT, and the PCTs go in twelve months' time, so we are all looking for ways forward at the moment - while, of course, maintaining "business as usual" :-(

A friend of mine (in IT) was offered a job in the NHS recently. He`s currently in the redeployment pool of another company. I was quite surprised that they`d offered him a job because the dept he was going to is to be contracted out. Two weeks later they said "Sorry, you haven`t got a job now because the dept you are going to is to be contracted out". Shame they hadn`t thought of that in the first place.

Yeah very different... I used to spend a fair bit of time moaning about PCTS, but I'd rather have them in charge than GP's, it's a load of the squeeshy brown stuff. Is bednobs PCT too? I seem to remember her saying something as well... What's the situation with you? Will there be roles you can apply for at the local hospitals?

I can't complain too much as during the consultation period I faught the changes they were going to make to my job and actually came up trumps and my job has been left alone. I think if the trust had been forced to make the changes rather than each directorate doing it themselves then I'd have just been downgraded without a second thought.

Sorry tinks, gone off topic there.... if I were a nurse then I think I would look to foundation trusts for work. But then I'm also in London and not sure if that makes difference.

Yes across two trusts.

Its also annoying for me because they allow people to retire from their post but come back two/three days to the same job .....when it could be opened up.

When im registered, if i dont work for a year ill loose my registration.

Scary.

The wards are seriously and dangerously understaffed and so many people like me are literally desperate for a job. The more i sit the more i loose my confidence.....i have a "omg do i want to do this" moment quite often LOL xx

If i went to england i could have the pick of what i wanted and my ideal job in some places.....but i dont have the guts....or the state of mind to go it alone i dont think x

I know, I really feel for nurses Tinks. I spent just under a week in hospital last year and the nurses were trying to do their best, there just wasn't enough of them. I missed out on meds and got left sitting in a room for 8 hours on the last day because none were free to do my discharge. When my boyfriend came to collect me, after waiting with me for two hours he went back to the nurses station to find out what was happening and found the ward sister sitting there blubbing becaus they couldn't cope. It was horrible for them and me.

Aww god EB. Its so hard for the people who have jobs they are stressed out their box....and people are in danger- nurses and patients. The thought you might loose your registration never leaves the back of your mind!!

Im even wanting to work as unqualified for now honestly untill something comes up. I hate signing on so much. I hate being on the dole. I hated being at the dentist and saying i was on the NHS as i wasnt working.

I wish i had the balls to move away but i just dont :0(

I know it's not what you want to do but is there any care work you could get while you wait for a nursing job to come up? (I don't really know about these things so Soz if it doesn't really work like that). Doing a bit of work in the general field would def look better on your CV too. Hope you find something soon!
