Lost job and no idea how to deal with debt repayments
4 Answers
Hi, I'm posting on behalf of a close friend who has lost his job and isn't having much luck finding how to deal with his debts. He has a mortgage, credits cards etc and has applied for benefits this week.
He isn't having much luck with finding out how to deal with debt repayments and has been told to change his bank and cancel all direct debits and then let them take him to court. This is from a debt counselling agency. This sounds like a bad idea to me, he also has a school age daughter that lives with him.
If anyone is able to help with names of organisations that could direct him towards a way of dealing with this then I would be very grateful!!

Try the Citizens Advice Bureau for advice. They are good. They would help in getting CC interest halted.
Ask him to get benefit payment paid into a Post Office Account, then he can see what available money he has.
Does he get Working Tax Cred/Child Benefit/Child Tax Cred for his child? Although I have no idea on what bearing that would have on anything.
