It used to be exciting years ago, before team technology took centre stage, now drivers who have spent a few years as a back marker (Hakkinen/vettel) can be a world champion in the right team the very next year.
I love it! It's not all about technology. Look at Alonso last year. He had the skill to take the championship battle to the last race with a car that shouldn't have been there.
You had smaller teams getting podiums and wins last year as well! Even today, both Force Indias were in the points.
If you go with what you said in your OP, the same can be said with most team sports....
Well it's not the super exciting spectacle that is football I suppose.
Hardly any gobbing, arguing, back chat, violent conduct, 'simulation', crowd trouble and on and on.
Still, horses for courses eh?
F1 isn't just about the drivers. It's also about making the fastest car as well.
If all cars were the same where's the competition for the manufacturers?
The manufacturers would leave the sport in my opinion.
//If all cars were the same where's the competition for the manufacturers?//
Surely SlackAlice, the sport is based on the skill of the drivers, not the manufacturers.
Oh, and why would anybody want to buy Pirelli tyres, or whichever tyre they're currently using, they don't last very long, do they? Changed 2 or 3 times a race!
