Maths Question, There Are 24 Eggs In A Box, 3/8 Of Them Are Broken So How Many Eggs Are Not?

Hi, my son has maths homework and we are stuck at this question, we need to answer as a fraction and as a whole number.

I hated doing arithmetic at school. I was afraid of the whole lesson I never enjoyed it. It wasn't called Maths in those days. We were taught the basics and there were no calculators then. It never really held me back I have had jobs where I needed to balance long columns of money or work out percentages, but I'm not happy being confronted with problems like mk1975. Looking at the answers on here the method is straightforward it is a matter of being taught to enjoy your subject. To me, jno's method made it look easy.

Factor-fiction, so agree with your comment regarding parental attitude to Mathematics, it's OK, almost a badge of honour, to say I was bad at Maths, but the same parents have a dozen fits if their child is not on the highest reading level.

By the way, sorry to be critical but this is not maths, it is simple arithmetic.

it is rather like saying that the end of term play at the local primary school is theatrical drama.

If I were to ask a question about the eight times table I would head it "arithmetic".

Not to all of them, zacs. If the parent didn't get the hang of it at school, they're not going to be able to help the child. Someone's probably said that already, but I think it's understandable. Sad, but understandable.

Boxy....Mk was very polite and level.....a cut above some....I hope she does come back if help is needed with her son's homework....and gets polite answers.....surely that is part of what this site is all about.

But that's exactly what teachers have to do, Naomi- decide which level to pitch at - and adjust if needed. And it's true in all communications. But I agree that it would be insulting to say to someone "I will keep this simple for you because I know you are not the brightest", although that isn't how I interpreted the comment

Factor-fiction, That's exactly how I interpreted his comment - and it isn't the first time his posts have conveyed a similar message. He's talking to adults - mostly intelligent adults - and he isn't here to teach.
