Acting-up pay

AAARRRGGGHHH I hate my job! When the lad senior to me left, they decided not to get anyone in (company in trouble non-recruitment), but instead expect me to do his job, and actually be in charge when the real boss is away. I get no extra money for this but have heard about "acting-up pay" when you getmoney for covering someone. Effectively the two of us are doing three people's job, and when my boss goes on holiday a temp will be brought in and i will be in charge. Can anyone help?

There may well be legal solutions to this, but I think the best problem may well be a friendly chat with your HR team.  Just try to sound positive but explain that your role has changed and you would like to initiate an appraisal/salary review ahead of any annual system because of the significance of the change. 

However, your opening statement implies to me that what you actually need to be doing is looking for a new job!!!  If you loved your job but felt under-paid, then your subconscience wouldn't have made you type that!  Get on the look for a company who will appreciate you!! :-)
