Yes, prudie's suggestion will also work. There is a direct equivalence between percentages and fractions and decimals, which works in the following way. 10% really just means "10 per 100", or "10 divided by 100". Thus all percentages can instantly by converted into a fraction by taking the number that's the given percentage, and writing it instead as a...

It's more of a general observation, really.
I suppose people have heard of the giant Range outlets. Well, it's owner can neither read nor write and he's a self made billionaire. Let's not be judgemental, Mmm?
A little bit off topic but you have to look at this Bitesize video. It had me in stitches. I have a weird sense of humour. The animated pooches made me laugh.

Ok, but I do find that some well-educated people (generalisation) can't see any short comings that they might have and can't seem to cut anyone wishing to improve their skills any slack. I admire Phleb, at least she's having a crack at improving her life rather than moaning about how bad it is.
Yes, and the criticism she got was entirely unfair. What I'm saying is that it should be possible to point that out without denigrating other people...
I wasn't denigrating my husband, he will freely admit he can't spell for toffee, I wasn't denigrating myself - I know my weaknesses. I think it's important to admit these things, but that might be because we have kids (four of whom are really clever, two who are clever and one who isn't academic in the least) and I don't want them growing up to be boastful in anyway, they need to know that everyone has skills and qualities that are valuable and important. I also used to work with lots of people with (usually) pretty crap degrees who thought they were better than all the other staff around them, qualifications are all well and good, doesn't necessarily make you a nice person to be around though.
I don't have seven kids - it should be two then two and then one!
Fair enough -- but still, that's what people do a lot of the time when this happens. Also academics are an oft-misunderstood breed anyway, and that outward sign of arrogance is often just an act...
Academics often lack social skills due to their obsession with their specialities and this sometimes comes across as arrogance. Is that what you meant Jim?
I love the best answer. It is the way my ex would have explained it to me. Then he would have smiled smugly as I glazed over.
lardhelmet: and that is why he's an ex? :p
Well possibly... although some are still rather social, if you give them a chance. (Others aren't, but then there are always gits if you look hard enough.)
In my experience you don't have to look too hard. Just watch any episode of Simply Connect.
Hmm...

(Only Connect, I think you mean? :P )
Lol @ Dizmo. He could never understand why I just wasn't interested.
Ha ha. I did. But you see my point Peter...erm...sorry, Jim.
lardhelmet: My brother sounds a bit like him. His wife just tells him to *£"& off when he starts spouting mathematical equations and science jargon. At least she responds, my wife just used to walk out the room if I tried to teach her how to use Microsoft Word - eeeeep!
But again, Only Connect is a bit of an act. They're emphasising the geekiness. Makes it look more pronounced than it actually is.

Well, at least I hope so.
So they give them 'superiority' lessons before they go on then? And I suppose the wardrobe dept give them the naff clobber and makeup the silly haircuts / facial growth? (And that's just the women!). I merely point out these physical absurdities to further emphasise my argument of course; not to poke fun. Naturally.
Dizmo- the ex was a very bright boy and knew it. He asked me one day if I thought he was arrogant and I said yes. He seemed genuinely surprised!
