I find it a bit strange that if your company supplies your uniform - so you don't have to buy it - then you can claim laundry costs. However, if you're like myself and don't get a uniform provided then there's a good chance, that you buy clothes specifically for work, I know I do. So not only do you have to pay out for the clothes, but you also don't get any tax rebate on laundry. I'm not sure how that's fair.
It is a bit odd, spudqueen, but there are quite a few odd things in the tax system still (untaxed daily expenses for House of Lords, for example), but as the allowance is only £60 a year the tax relief is only £12 a year and assuming 1% of the workforce claims it then it costs HMRC only a few million pounds a year. It will probably just be left to at £60 a year as inflation eats away its real value
