Can anyone tell me how much it will cost me per week or month to hire a building site general labourer from an agency

Expect in the region of £10-£12 per Jr. Depending which part of the country you are

That doesnt sound much. The labourer wont get much after the agency have taken their percentage, whatever that might be!

Seem quite low to me. I pay at least £10 per hour direct to any labourer I might need.

Have you tried googling the agencies to see what they pay labourers? Do that and double it. NI, holiday pay and pension costs amount to 25% of what you pay and 25% profit for the agency leaves 50% for the labourer. Approx.

Why not put an ad in your local newsagents stating that you want a labourer for a couple of days, weeks or whatever, I'm sure there'll be men out there only too glad of the work, cash in hand AT THE END OF THE JOB, or daily, would be an attraction also.

The construction industry operates operates a thing called the CIS system to stop such practices that avoid payment of NI and tax to the Exchequer. An agency will provide the CIS element for individual labourers without the CIS ticket

Dogsbody2 ...... Its happening all over and has been for donkeys years, there are many things that are illegal, I suppose you've never driven over the speed limit, parked illegally, tried smoking when under 16 or alcohol when under 18, paid under fare on a bus!! Bet you're a laugh at parties!!

I have worked for an agency. If I got £7 an hour the agency charged the same again for themselves, so £14 an hour total.
