There are various techniques you coud use... you have to find the right one for you.  I'll give a few tips, and I'm sure others will add their own! :-)

  • Don't revise for too long at a time, and take sensible breaks.
  • Create a timetable of study time, but don't necessarily lock yourself down to each subject.
  • Try anacronyms... RSPCA is one, or DR ABC (for danger, responce, airway, breathing and circulation), or the way we all learned the colours of the rainbow... Richard of York....
  • With vocab for French/Spanish/German etc, use look/cover/write/check.  And just try to practice using the language when you can.
  • Try to use a variety of sources.  Use the bbc  - they have many good ideas for revision tips too.  For example, if you're really bored of revising Romeo and Juliet, ask your parents to let you watch the DVD of it.  Don't think this is an alternative to proper study, but it will be an additional aide memoire.
  • Use colour - highlight things, or use different coloured pens.  This helps to keep your mind interested!
  • Try diagrams, or mind maps.
  • Ask your teachers for a copy of the syllabus and only learn what you need to - no need to over stretch yourself at a time of stress!
  • Practise working under pressure - test yourself!  I used to actually write myself little quizzes - sounds really tragic, but I didn't drop below an A so it obviously helped!
  • Identify the bits that you find hardest, and devote more time to them.
  • Make sure that in every evening of study/day (during half term) you have something to look forward to (Eastenders watching maybe!) to sort of bribe yourself through.
  • Right now, plan something fun with mates for the final weekend of half term, but allow your parents to ban you from going if you haven't made what YOU think is enough progress.  It will give you a good incentive to work hard!
  • Don't be afraid to feel a bit of a geek!! :-)  It's only for a few weeks, and it's better to be a boffin for a few weeks now, and again in May, than to realise you can't achieve your dreams because you mucked around now.
  • Some people find that recording things onto a tape/recordable CD and playing it back as they sleep/as they do their paper round/travel to work or whatever, is actually very helpful.  It's all those subliminal messages!!!

If you have any more specific questions... just ask me/others!  We're here to help! :-)  Good luck!! :-)
